His work has been recognized by American Photography, POYi, NPPA Best of Photojournalism, nominated for PDN 30, and other distinctions.
Ben is most proud to be a mentor at NYC SALT, a non-profit photography program working with underserved teenagers in New York City. He is a member of Wonderful Machine.
As of 2022, he is also an adjunct professor of Photojournalism at New York University's Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute.
His Covid-19 coverage for The Times was recently recognized by Best of Photojournalism and American Photography 37.

I spent a few weekends one summer photographing the local New York City amateur cricket leagues. The teams, informally organized by country of origin, would carve out space in the outer-borough parks to get through the multi-hour games. As writer Alex Vadukul said, \"Cricket exists here because immigrants refuse to part ways with it.\"

The Gotham City Cheerleaders have one mission: to become the official cheerleading team of the Giants.
The team, started in 2011 by a former Washington Redskins cheerleader, Ana De Villegas, operates like any official N.F.L. cheerleading squad: It practices a few times a week, performs at events, has its own uniforms and even produces a swimsuit calendar.
But you will not see these cheerleaders on the sidelines at Giants home games. Instead, they hit the pavement outside MetLife Stadium, performing at tailgate parties in the parking lot with the hope that word of mouth and a growing fan base will persuade the franchise to bring them inside.
The Giants are one of six teams in the N.F.L. without an official cheerleading squad. John Mara, one of the Giants’ owners, has said, “It’s just not part of our philosophy.”

Over the past few years, I've had the opportunity to make portraits of dozens of members for The Visiting Nurse Service of New York, a non-profit home healthcare organization.
These are some of my favorite images from the campaigns. While the majority of our subjects are elderly and usually dealing with at least one health crisis, you can see that it takes a lot to hold back a smile.
Wall Street is a photo essay that explores the frenzy, stress, and often greed of working on the most financially influential half-mile in the world. Having previously worked at an investment bank, I was very familiar with the culture of high finance. Sections of it have been published in New York Magazine, The New York Times Magazine, TIME Magazine, and various international publications. This is an ongoing project.
My first time living outside of the New York area was in an old Meyer Lansky-owned hotel on El Malecon in Havana. This is a collection of what I saw, and whom I saw it with, as I spent four months studying and traveling around Cuba.
I didn’t want to move to Bushwick. I felt like I was too old, didn’t have enough tattoos, and was wary of being smack in the middle of an extremely strong wave of gentrification.
But, the price was right, we were near a train, and we had a “backyard”, which I affectionally call the “prison yard” due to its small size, lack of grass, and high walls on all four sides. So my partner and me began building our first home together and it was going swell.
Then I hurt my back, badly, after returning from our first vacation in 5 years. I was laid up and frustrated and feeling sorry for myself. I missed people. So I decided that, when I was back on my feet, I would go out and meet my neighbors.
In January of 2019, The New York Times wrote about this personal project of mine. I am very, very grateful to everyone who allowed me to photograph them. I’m equally grateful to my neighbors who didn’t say yes to being photographed, but still hung out with me.
This is a simple project. I’m not trying to say anything specific here. I just wanted to meet and hang out and, if they were cool with it, photograph my neighbors. And guess what? They were awesome. I’ve always been optimistic about my fellow human being, and this project was a great reminder of its easier than it looks to relate to strangers.
I'm really looking forward to meeting more neighbors in 2019.

This is serious business.
“When you’ve got this outfit on, you’ve got to be proper, and make sure you don’t do anything that would take away from Abraham Lincoln,” said Tom Wright, 71, from Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
Indeed, when it comes to historical second skins, the attitude is as important as the accruements. “To me, this guy was important to the country because he saved the Union. I have to make sure that I don’t do anything that’s going to take away from that.”
Mr. Wright and his wife Sue joined some fifty other people this weekend at the Amicalola State Falls Lodge in Dawsonville Georgia for the twenty-fifth annual Association of Lincoln Presenters, a conference of reenactors, amateur historians, and Lincoln era enthusiasts.
There were twenty-two Abrahams, twelve Mary Todds, one Robert Todd, one Jefferson Davis, and one George Perkins Marsh (for the unknowing, Lincoln’s ambassador to Italy) gathered at Amicalola State Falls Lodge in Dawsonville, Georgia, for the 25th annual Association of Lincoln Presenters, which first met 1990 as a network of Lincoln era re-creators from across the country.
